£30m Parker Tower, Covent Garden, Starts on Site
The £30m office-to-residential conversion of this 14 storey tower is the first project to be carried out by BNP Paribas in the UK following their development of the Google headquarters at Kings Cross. It is also the first building in the UK to be worked on by French Top-10 contractor Legendre Construction.
Having worked with the original team, leading a forensic assessment of the 1967 structure and designing a two storey extension, MNP are now value engineering the design with Moxley Architects, novated to the project by Legendre.
The planning architect, Squires and Partners, set an interesting challenge of completely reconfiguring the external columns and stability systems to make the most of the tremendous views over central London and the City.
MNP designed a smart solution to allow full reconfiguration of the structure on a non-linear construction programme. This allows the contractor to make significant programme savings. MNP also managed asset protection studies, radar surveys and physical testing as well as ground movement analysis to satisfy the requirements of London Underground.
Demolition of the original podium is now 90% complete and the project is scheduled for completion by May 2018.
