MNP was founded in 1999 by David Mason, Frank Navarro and Stuart Pledge. We are a privately owned, independent consultancy that employs over 50 civil and structural engineers and technicians in Hitchin, London and Manchester. Our open, approachable culture is fundamental to how we work. We put a huge emphasis on maintaining a talented and enthusiastic team who are technically adept engineers, and also great to work with. Our Director team offer exceptionally strong leadership and a hands on approach to project delivery.
We are creative and passionate, and our ethos is to deliver new and refurbished buildings across every sector innovatively and sustainably. Our research and development group, MNP Advantage, helps us focus on construction solutions to drive carbon reduction across our work. We are involved in projects which vary in scale from under £1m to over £250m. These range from new commercial, retail and residential projects to the intricate modification and preservation of existing structures, which requires a highly forensic approach.
Our work includes the investigation of damaged and dangerous structures following accidental events such as vehicle impact, misuse or fire.
By identifying opportunities and solutions, we carefully balance creative and commercial needs. Collaborating with our clients, we maximise space and flexibility ensuring the longevity of a building.
Urban Regeneration
From the conception of regeneration projects we collaborate with stakeholders and are able to provide key civil and structural engineering advice through all stages of development, identifying and mitigating development risks.
New Build
We deliver building solutions for basements, low and high rise structures embracing traditional methods, prefabrication and modern methods of construction, embedding an elegant yet economical solution.
Repurposing
Our practice was largely built on the extension, alteration and modification of existing structures including ‘cut and carve’ engineering. This is especially relevant when we are striving for sustainable construction to reduce carbon emissions, and making the most of existing assets.
Conservation
Our specialist team of conservation engineers have many years experience working on listed structures and buildings of historic importance ranging from individual statues to royal palaces. We employ tried and tested methods supplemented with state of the art techniques. Associate Director Stuart Ellis is on the Conservation Accreditation Register of Engineers (CARE).
Civil Engineering
Our civil engineering team advise on 3D ground modelling, cut and fill analysis, below ground drainage and pavement design across a broad range of projects from pre-planning to completion.
Flood Engineering
We provide expert assessment and advice be it Sustainable Urban Drainage Systems, flood risk analysis, surface water attenuation or support with statutory authorities and planning applications.
Construction Support & Temporary Works
We advise on cost-effective solutions to safely construct elements of projects, provide designs for temporary works, and help clients manage coordination of these works. By having construction support and temporary works engineering services in-house, we are able to create a seamless integration between the permanent works and temporary works designs.
HRBs and the Building Safety Act
With the introduction of the Building Safety Act, the way in which buildings are designed, built and occupied has changed significantly. With our significant portfolio of higher risk building projects, we have been collaborating with other Designers to effectively navigate the new process, including producing robust design documentation for Gateway 2 submissions. Associate Director Chris O’Regan is on the Engineering Council’s structural engineering competency register for HRBs and is the current chair of the IStructE and ICE joint committee for the maintenance and review of those who are seeking to be on the register.
