The proposed development is a two-storey data centre, which is circa 285m x 106m on plan and typically has 7.0m storey heights and a 6.0m louvred enclosure on the roof, which houses the chillers for the scheme. The new data centre will provide multiple data halls per floor, accommodating in the region of 648 racks. To the north and south of the data halls; generator compounds are proposed and will be constructed independently from the main data halls themselves.
The structural philosophy for the new data centre and associated generator compounds is to adopt a lightweight steel “pinned” frame, which is advantageous for both long span construction and reduces the loading applied to the foundations, when compared to concrete frame construction.
MNP were responsible for full civil and structural works including cut and fill analysis, below ground drainage, S278 and vehicle tracking, substructure and superstructure design. Challenges included below ground drainage design in associated with earthworks, poor stability soils and extensive site topography change.
