Background:

The first development in the Thames Gateway region to achieve Level 4 of the Code for Sustainable Homes is under construction on a brownfield site in Chafford Hundred, situated near the Lakeside shopping centre and only 30 minutes train ride from London’s Fenchurch Street station. The development features a district heating scheme, solar heating, Combined Heat and Power (CHP), ground source heat pumps and rainwater harvesting.

The whole site is also in a landscaped pedestrian area, with underground parking for residents. MNP produced a cost-effective design for the underground car park. By adapting tried and tested techniques to the slope of the site and ground conditions, a highly buildable solution was achieved. According to Frank Navarro; “The underground car park design was straightforward. Developers are often wary about building underground but we have worked on several of these projects and they need not be difficult”.
