Background:

This Grade 1 listed four star hotel occupies a Tudor building which has been an Inn since the 18th century. Owners Mercure Hotels are investing in a continual refurbishment to upgrade rooms, eliminate creaks and repair the timber frame. Beams have been replaced, others strengthened with steel plates, and offices have been converted to suites. MNP carried out exploratory tests, calculated loads and detailed support structures to replace office accommodation with new bedroom suites.

According to Lloyd Robinson, project engineer, “Tiles in the en suites are expensive and brittle. Our designs had to be very robust to minimise movement in the structure to eliminate creaking and cracking.”
