Background:

Churchill House, a 25,000 sq ft office building at Old Street in London, has been refurbished by Mitie for Cordea Savills LLP to include an architecturally designed reception area, feature staircase and lift lobby. Key to the project’s success was creation of an open, light and welcoming entrance, made possibly by introducing a new Portland stone and glass elevation at ground and first floor level.

MNP worked closely with Ben Adams Architecture to create warehouse style floors, with exposed structure and services. The original building was a façade retention project in the 1990s and MNP investigated the building control records when designing modifications. A glass roof was designed over a new light well and the basement was enhanced by removing the turntable and car parking to create additional retail space. This is now occupied by specialist retailer Maplin Electronics.
