Background:

This competition winning design by dMFK architects created an outdoor learning environment with purpose built play area, as well as a much needed reorganisation of the layout inside a Victorian building.

Having suffered from lack of investment over the years, an extensive refurbishment involved an open-plan main entrance area and new school offices as well as an new playground with outside learning decks.

The two canopies were designed to enhance the building and bridge the gap between the austerity of the original architecture and the outside space.

Following propping and installation of  twin supporting steel picture frames to open up the circulation space, the canopies were constructed with a steel frame with contemporary cladding.

This was a design and build project, working with dMFK and main contractor Killby & Gayford within the Ravenscourt and Starch Green Conservation area.
