Background:

This new primary school in East London, which is part the £3.7bn Canning Town and Customer House Regeneration Project, will accommodate nursery and primary school facilities for 480 children between 3 and 11 years old. The building is on three levels. The second floor classrooms feature a green roof and will overlook a rooftop garden and playground, with a school square for use by the local community.

Working with main contractor Jerram Falkus Construction in a Design & Build project, MNP have designed a robust but discrete structure for the building. The school is located on the Thames and River Lea flood plains and a concrete structure was selected to satisfy the requirements of flood resilient design. Civil Engineers from MNP carried out extensive site investigations and designed below ground drainage for the site.

The building is scheduled for completion by June 2014, with playground and outside learning areas complete by February 2015.
